Unless you update your drivers regularly you may face hardware performance issues.

To check your drivers you should manually verify every device on your system for driver updates

The BAFO USB-ATA/ATAPI Bridge Controller and its driver are provided by BAFO. This company is known for manufacturing a host of computer products. They are also focused on customer satisfaction. Among its product lines, BAFO produces various ATA serial drivers. BAFO created a new line of Serial ATAs that are completely new and faster. They are also pioneering an industry wide move over to new hard drives, controllers, and connectors – wherein essentially, everything will move towards Serial ATA. Most of the ATAs run on 150 Mbytes with a maximum transfer rate of 300 and or 600 Mbytes between two SATA I of 150Mb devices. This device is highly capable of reaching up to 4.5 Gbytes, has a hot plug capability and two power saving modes with both partial and slumber overlapping commands. These commands are seen as tagged commands queuing smaller, longer, and more flexible cable and connectors. It is highly recommended you run a free registry scan for Windows and BAFO USB-ATA/ATAPI Bridge Controller errors before installing any driver updates.

(Solved) - IDE/SATA to USB bridge problem

(4 posts)

This is a bit odd.

I had an old WD 40GB IDE HDD connected to my PC running XP Pro SP2 via an IDE/SATA to USB bridge, just plugged into a USB 2.0 port. It was working fine until I plugged in an even older Maxtor 40GB ATA HDD instead. Both devices worked fine until I re-formatted the Maxtor one using Partition Commander. Now, neither drive is showing up in My Computer. In device manager, it says that my IDE/SATA to USB bridge is actually a USB to ATA/ATAPI bridge and is working properly. I've tried uninstalling the driver and then just plugging the bridge in again. It then recognizes it as a ATA/ATAPI bridge again and says that my hardware is ready to use, but still no drive is showing. Shouldn't it show up as an IDE/SATA bridge? That's what it says on the bridge itself. Is it because I plugged in an ATA drive instead of an IDE or SATA? I don't really understand the difference, I'm afraid.

This has me a little puzzled. Any ideas?

Many thanks in advance.

If you know where your original driver is (the IDE/SATA to USB bridge), go into Device Manager, right click on your (messed up) hardware and choose Update Driver. When the next dialog box comes up and it asks if it's OK for Windows to search for the driver, select 'No not this time' and click Next. On the next screen select 'Install from a list or a specific location' and point it to the driver you want it to load.

Thanks for the suggestion. I didn't know where the driver was in the first place as it installed it automatically the first time I plugged it in.

It's fixed now. My friend managed to figure out what to do in the end. All I had to do was go to Administrative Tools in Control Panel and pick Computer Management then Disk Management. The drive was showing up there and when I right clicked and choose Explore it popped up in My Computer and seems to be working fine. Nice!

Thanks again.

Adapter

On the terms both the normal big connector and the smaller SATA connector both are a type of ATA. So the device manager entry is correct.
